Hyperlink to Local Files

I created a hyperlink field in a table thinking I
could "compose" the path in a query which would then open
that file when it was clicked, however, regardless of
whether I use the file:\\\ format, or Dos format,
clicking on the hyperlink does not open the file.
If I manually edit the hyperlink, even if I delete a
letter and replace it exactly, the link works.
Specifically, I am making an index of my CDs and
would like to be able to play the song by clicking on the
hyperlink field. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
