hyperlink to powerpoint

When I use followhyperlink to a powerpoint show (.pps) file, it always opens
and plays with the Web toolbar and status bar showing. Is it possible to have
the presentation play in full screen mode - in the same manner that it does
when the .pps file is opened directly?
I use Office 2000 and Windows 98.

..pps files were not checked to open in the browser. I fear I did not explain
my problem properly. The slideshow I hyperlink to (using FollowHyperlink)
opens in the Powerpoint program, only not in full screen mode: The Web
toolbar shows at the top as does the taskbar at the bottom. I hope it is
possible to do something (either in VBA or elsewhere) to make the Show open
in full screen.

How PPT opens is determined in Slide Show/Setup Show. Presented in a window
will give the results you're seeing. But if your FollowHyperlink link is
causing this to happen with all shows -- even if they're not set up like
this -- then I don't know what's happening.

I don't do code, so I can't help there, but what exactly is it you're
opening PPT *from*?

I'm hyperlinking from Word, or more particularly a form which I have opened
in Word. Clicking a command button on the form hyperlinks to a Powerpoint
show with a custom animation. Then clicking objects on the slide runs macros
to animate other bits on the slide. It is actually is working quite nicely
except for the fact that I can't make the show open in full screen mode.

mmm, ISTR that there's something about opening PPT from Word always opening
in a window. That may be the default behavior, but I can't remember if we've
ever discussed how that can be overcome or not.

Here's hoping someone with better knowledge/memory will chime in...

It's rather unconventional and not without issues, but if you link to a BAT file
with the following two lines of code, you can open the presentation in full
screen mode in the Viewer. The issues are that you get a virus warning and you
get the Viewer's splash screen. I haven't been able to suppress either.

Create a text file in NotePad:

@ECHO OFF
launch.exe open "C:\Program Files\...full path...\PPTVIEW.EXE" "...full
path...\presentation name.ppt"

and save it as test.bat. Link to test.bat

Thank you for your advice. However, I cannot find pptview.exe file. Thinking
it must be part of the Powerpoint Viewer I downloaded that, but it is not
there either. I am using Powerpoint 2000. Does the file have a different name?

It's rather unconventional and not without issues, but if you link to a BAT file

Thanks Steve.
I had installed the Viewer and consequently tried using PPView32 which was
the .exe file in there.
Then I tried using Powerpnt.exe itself.
Thus I've tried two versions of Sonia's suggested Batch file (it did save as
Test.bat and not an "assisted" .txt file.
I've tried:
@ECHO OFF
launch.exe open "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Powerpnt.exe"
"C:\Now Files\Journey.ppt"

and
@ECHO OFF
launch.exe open "C:\Program Files\PowerPoint Viewer\PPView32.exe" "C:\Now
Files\Journey.ppt"

A few questions occur to me:
1. Do I link to this file using FollowHyperlink? If not, how?
2. If I use PPView32, I won't be able to access any macros will I?
3. Could I use Journey.pps rather than Journey.ppt so that the presentation
will begin the show immediately upon opening?

In conclusion, I tried to link to each of the batch files above using
FollowHyperlink. I did get the Virus message but then got the (DOS?) message:
Bad command or file name.
So obviously I'm doing something wrong.
Any other clues?

1. Use Insert > Hyperlink.
2. I didn't test the PowerPoint 97 Viewer (ppview32.exe), but it should work
the same. The Viewer does not support macros, VBA, OLE or ActiveX objects.
3. Both .PPT and .PPS files will open in slide show mode. That's all the
Viewer knows how to do.

I think that I goofed and forgot to mention that launch.exe needs to be
downloaded from
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/autorun_launch.htm Put it in
the same folder as the presentation file.

Thank you for your time in solving this problem for me. I appreciate your
continued correspondence.
FYI
Launch.exe will open .pps files directly. The documentation mentions .doc
files but launch.exe open "...path...\myshow.pps" worked fine also in opening
the show directly from Word.
Launch.exe is nice. I think it may prove helpful in the future. Makes me
wonder how many other simple fixes there are out there to the problems I
labour over for days. Ho hum.

Yes, opening the file directly works on a system with PowerPoint or the Viewer.
I open the Viewer because I tend to distribute presentations via CD which
include the Viewer.

Stick around. You'll learn lots about "simple solutions" here. Of course, some
solutions aren't so simple, but if there's a way to do something (or 10 ways),
this is the place to hear about them.

In addition to Michael's advice, if this is intended to run from a CD, the
launch statement will need to be changed to:

launch.exe open PPVIEW.EXE filename.ppt

or something similar, to make it pathless. The CD will need to contain the Bat
file, the PowerPoint file and all of the Viewer files in the root directory.

The way that you have coded the launch statement requires that the user have the
Viewer installed on their system and that the presentation file reside on their
Desktop in a folder structure identical to yours.

The long filename was the issue I had. I have moved the folder to the root
directory and adjusted the path in the batch file, now Launch.exe does its
business!

option in Powerpoint 2003.

I want to open an .pps in Acces 2003 with an hyperlink, and it also will not
open in fulls screen mode, but an web browser mode. I don't want to use the
dos commands , is there maybe anoter function.

As a possible alternative, at least for some, would be to insert an object
(using Insert>Object>Create from File, point to "yourfile" (check the 'use
Icon' box to show as an Icon rather than a mini version of your file if
desired)

End result is an icon on the spreadsheet or document that runs the
powerpoint in full screen provided its file extension is .pps
