Can we create a hyperlink to a particular sheet (or a defined range) in
a excel document from powerpoint / word??

Yes. Insert > Hyperlink and type something like this

C:\Dick\NG\02 Feb\Book1.xls#Sheet1!A10

Everything after the # is called the subaddress and determines where in the
sheet the link goes.
