Hyperlinks get lost or change

On Powerpoint 2003 I lose hyperlinks to slides randomly, sometimes thy
change from a slide hyperlink to a URL hyperlink that doesn't exist. I can't
find any reason for this. Can someone help?

Thanks for the email which I've answered but to keep it here:

The answer was hundreds - this is a known problem because there is a finite
amount of space available to store the link data.
