hyperlinks in Shape Data

Is it possible to have Hyperlinks in Shape data? I've linked an object to a
database record and one of the fields is a hyperlink. The data is shown but
it shows up as #\\path\file.xls#. Is this possible?

If you are using Link Data to Shapes, then ensure that hyperlinks are in
correct format, eg
http://etc
file://etc
mailto:someone@somewhere
