Hyperlinks not working

I have inherited a powerpoint presentation with embedded hyperlinks to
internet locations. When I hover the cursor over the links there is
no reaction and clicking on the link embeds the mouse cursor at that
point as if it were text. Right clicking on the links and selecting
edit hyperlink shows a seemingly correctly set up link.

If I try to re-make the link, nothing changes.

If I set up a link with an identical url in word, it operates
correctly.

I would be very grateful for any help with this.

Hyperlinks do not work in PowerPoint in editing mode. Switch to slide show
mode and try there.
