I am new: getting cross stead of picture on Website

I am a starter:
I designed a test start web with Publisher2003 and I get upon publishingthe
website via FTP the
website with the right text ,but further squares ,with a "cross"where a
picture should be.
If I work in Publisher/Explorer and do a "VIEW" then it is
WITH the pictures.
What is wrong. ??

A common mistake is to fail to upload the subfolder that contains the images. Upload the sub-folder with the home page.
