Problems publishing my website - Publisher 2003

Up until the last few days I have been unable to publish my website. I am
getting the following error message after approx 30 seconds of trying

Publisher could not save your file to the web
Please check your URL or network connection and try again

So far I have tried:

Three different interenet connections
Taken the firewall down briefly to see if that would help
Made sure all the pictures are compressed (Total size of site 3.95MB)
I can log into to FTP ok and locate the same web folder I have been saving in
My host has run a test page their end and logged in using my FTP password
Loaded Windows SP3 that recently came out, but could load website before that
Rebooted my laptop several times
Checked for all other virus updates and run a full test on my laptop
Turning around and touching the ground with my eyes closed!!

You get my drift!!!

I have added an additional page recently, but it all links ok and works on
preview

Although I sort of sound sane and know what I'm talking about that is my
Publisher/website knowledge!!

Please help

If Windows SP3 didn't cause it, perhaps you switched to IE7? Regardless of
the reason, if you have been using FTP uploading, then I would suggest that
first you read the directions in this article:

Reference: Prepare, publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx
It is written for Pub 2007, but if you are using IE7 instead of IE6, then
the directions for using Vista also would apply to Pub 2003. FTP and HTTP
uploading has changed with the introduction of IE7 and Vista.

And since you have been using FTP uploading, I would suggest that you
consider downloading and installing
the free FTP client FileZilla:
http://filezilla-project.org/ It is likely to be easier for you in the long
run, if not immediately.

I am assuming that you are not using HTTP uploading protocol with FPSE.
Reference: How to publish a Publisher web in HTTP:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/pages/80557.aspx

If you have more questions about Publisher webs, then post in the web group
and we will try to help you there:

Please include the version of Publisher you are using, the URL of your site
and as much detail as possible.

Thanks for the below

Dont think i have switched to IE7? How do I check?

Read the article you suggested and I'm doing all that correctly

Loaded Filezilla and although it appears that it has loaded the publisher
file with all the correct messages the website is not loading fully, but is
mostly back up

Its something to do with the 9th page I recently added. If you look at the
navigaton bar on the homepage it has a Christmas Menu link but if you click
through it does not load. On my publisher version I have this navigation bar
option on every page, but its not showing on any of the other pages. Also
some of the pictures on the homepage have not loaded properly

When I run the preview in Publisher all the links are there and work and
page 9 is there in full as well. And although the last two pages of the
website are not naed like the others I had no problems when I added page 8 -
also fairly recently

One thing I have just thought of as I was typing this was that I copied page
8 and blanked it and then added the info for page 9 so I could keep the
layout and header etc - would that really matter?

Almost certainly think I am not using HTTP uploading protocol with FPSE -
got lost a bit on that article!!

Any thoughts on what is happening

Thanks in advance. Please let me know if you need more info

First of all, you do not have the FPSE installed. As per the article I
referenced if you check the link:
http://www.theaxeandcompass.co.uk/_vti_inf.html this tells you that the FPSE
have not been installed. But since you do not seem to have a form on your
site, you don't have to use HTTP uploading...you can use FTP, and FileZilla.
It might be wise when you are ready to upload fresh web files to log on to
your site and delete the index.htm file and the index_files folder on your
server. It is possible that your server is set to not allow you to overwrite
the old files, and that is why you didn't get a complete upload. Your
"Christmas" page has not been uploaded:
http://www.theaxeandcompass.co.uk/index_files/Page313.htm

As to the navbar and links not being correct, you will need to repair it or
rebuild it. I will assume that you are using Pub 2003. Click on the navbar
on the first page in your Pub file to select it. Then go to Format >
Navigation Bar Properties. In the dialog that comes up, select the link to
the Christmas page, and remove it, OK out of the dialog and the link should
be gone from your navbar on the first page. Now go to the Christmas page,
Tools > Web page Options and confirm that you have the "Add hyperlink to new
navigation bars that are added to this publication" checked. Now select the
navbar again, Format > Nav bar properties. Make sure the checkbox to update
the navbar is checked at the bottom of the navbar. Then click the Add link,
and a new dialog pops up. Select the Christmas page, and make sure the Text
to display field at the top says what you want on the navbar button. Ok out,
and the navbar should show up on all pages now with the Christmas navbar
button. If that does not work, then you may need to rebuild the entire
navbar, but try the repair first.

You should be ready to republish now. As I suggested delete the old
index.htm file and index_files folder off the web server before you upload
the new. That is one of the advantages of using FileZilla. It makes it easy
to browse the files on the server and manage them.

After this response, please move to the web design group as requested, so
others that are familiar with using Publisher for webs can assist and learn.
And this time include the version of Publisher. Good luck.
