I am not being asked "Create a hyperlink here" when I drag files i

I have a user that is using Outlook 2003, SP2. He used to be able to drag a
file from a file server into an email message and was asked if he wanted to
create a hyperlink. He is no longer being asked that, but would like to be.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for that quick reply, Bob. Selecting Word as the e-mail editor does
fix this, and I will have the user requesting the hyperlink feature to start
using Word as his editor. I was hoping that there was another way to enable
this because we have experienced some "strange" problems when using Word as
the editor that are fixed as soon as we stop using it. I can't recall any
particular problem right now, but that setting is the first place I look when
unusual problems show themselves. Quite often the problem is resolved by
turning of Word as the editor. Unfortunate that in our organization, at
least, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook don't play very well together
sometimes.

Amen to that. You could see what switching to "HTML" format does for
you, but I despise HTML e-mail.

I had already tried using "HTML" formatting without success. We also
discourage our users from using HTML as their default format.

If this is only an "occasional" need, I tell folks to NOT set Word as
the e-mail editor, but instead when the need to "hyperlink", click
Actions, New mail message using, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word
Document. The best of both worlds. You can even drag a "Microsoft
Office" button to the Toolbar to make it easier.

Thanks for pointing this method out. I wasn't aware of that feature.
Interesting to note that I don't see anywhere in Outlook 2007 where you are
given an option to use Word as your editor. Nor do I see Microsoft Office as
a "New mail message using...". The only options presented are Plain Text,
Rich Text, HTML, and other stationery.

Sorry, this is 2003 based on the original question. As to 2007, someone
else will need to reply as I haven't used it.

Outlook 2007 uses a scaled down version of Word via a special .dll for its email editing options so that particular choice has been removed. You are already using Word for editing all Outlook 2007 messages.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. All
unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without
reading.

After furious head scratching, Midwest Muskie asked:
