I am unable to read any MS Office files.

Ever since I installed Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite about ten days ago,
I have been unable to open any MS Office files, either from email attachments
or on my hard drive. I am using Office XP.The files are there, and I can put
them on a flash drive and move them to another computer and work with them.

The problem started immediately after I installed Zone Alarm. I have since
tried uninstalling Zone Alarm, but the problem persists. I welcome any and
all suggestions.

Your best hope is to ask Zone alarm people. They should know the
problems with their products and incompatibility issues with Microsoft
products.

Have tried posting this to:

news://microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

There are lots of people on that Newsgroup using Zone Alarm!

Wow, I don't know, then. Have you asked the Zone Alarm people?

Try using Windows Explorer and select a *.doc file with the left
mouse button then right click it while holding down the <shift> key
and select "open with". Select Word from the list and check "always
use" then OK.

This works for files that are not associated with a program. It may
be worth a try.

Yes, and they sent me a very detailed set of instructions to uninstall all
traces of ZoneAlarm, but unfortunately it did not work.

Okay. Have you tried running a Detect and Repair on Office?
