Okay, here's the deal... I need help, cause i'm racking my brain and
can't figure out what went wrong.
Here's some details about my situation.

#1) I have Entourage X, and its version 10.1.6
#2) I downloaded the latest update for OFFICE Vx I think its 10.1.9
and its installed.
#3) G4 Dual Processor
#4) I have a Hotmail plus account so i have extra storage space
online with my account
#5) i've been receiving and sending emails no problem until today.
just stopped sending.. just recieving.
#6) My hotmail account works 100% Its definitely Entourage
#7) I get an error message :
Mail could not be sent using the account "MY EMAIL." HTTP error. The
request cannot be fulfilled. Error #1412
#8) I checked on line to see what 1412 means and websites say it
pertains to a limit of sent emails/capacity. so I erased all my
emails in the sent box AND, I don't send more than 10 emails a day, so
I haven't sent a ton of emails.

#9) I've erased my account and recreated it a new several times but
still, I can get emails but I can't send them out.
#10) I rebuild my database by pressing OPTION key plus clicking on
entourage to start... and still nothing.

i'm at my witts end.. PLEASE PLEASE... Help!!!!

Error: Mail could not be sent using the account "Hotmail." Explanation: HTTP

Hotmail has these rules:

Max 50 emails at a time
Max 100 mails in a 24 hour period
#9) I've erased my account and recreated it a new several times but
still, I can get emails but I can't send them out.
#10) I rebuild my database by pressing OPTION key plus clicking on

First, test your Hotmail account in a new Identity in Entourage. You'll have
to enter your account info to test. If it works there, it's your database.
If it doesn't work, then test in a new User. Go to System Preferences and
create a new User. Open Entourage in the new User and test. If it doesn't
work there, it's most likely a system wide problem.

You might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again
rather than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially
problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd
problems they were having with Entourage.

The combo update installer updates Mac OS X 10.4, 10.4.1, 10.4.2, 10.4.3,
10.4.4, 10.4.5, 10.4.6, 10.4.7, or 10.4.8 to 10.4.9.

Let me know what you find when you test in the new configurations.

I checked my updates.. and Everything is up to date in terms of
microsoft office, entourage, word etc.
I tried the combo updater..... Nothing
I tried creating a new user for my mac, then creating a new account
via that new user.. and Same thing happens.. good old error 1412 pops
up.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've recreatd my account and
tried.. and nothing.

The only thing that worries me is that whoever has this problem.. it
all happened. April 2nd.. like an APril fools day joke. Did hotmail
update something and didn't realize? I've ran my antivirus program
several times since I haven't been able to send emails.. but nothing
comes up.. it says my computer is 100% clean.

Let me know what you find out. But I think it is really fishy that it
happened to everyone all at once.

I too have had this problem since Tuesday night 3rd April 2007, using
Entourage vX and thought I had messed up my settings.

I can receive from Hotmail, but can neither reply, send or delete files in
Entourage vX for my hotmail account unless I go onto the web.

No matter how many times I have re-set my ONLY account for hotmail it still
comes back with the "Error 1412" message.

As I work from home this is causing me alot of problems and I am having to
use my hotmail through Safari and not through Entourage on my Powerbook G4
(Jan 03) with the Microsoft Office 10.1.9 update running Mac OSX 10.4.9.

Things ran so smoohtly until Tuesday night, I have wasted so much time
trying to sort out this problem, I have missed a deadline because of it!!!

Your help would be very much appreciated!

Regards,

Duncan (in England).

I'm with you duncan, no new update yet, but know you are not alone.
There are several people who have posted messages with the exact same
problem. Check out some of the other posts to see what the latest
info is on the issue. There are some links included for posting
messages directly to microsoft as well. I would post something with
them directly just to let them know that there are numerous people
being effected by this issue.

PS. I didn't miss any deadline, but lets just say i'll be catching up
on a ton of sleep this weekend. this thing has driven me crazy
trying to figure it out!!!!!

The deadline was missed because of all the time I was spending trying to
"fix" the problem.

As I do not have a printer at home, I rely on sending pdf files to my
clients and by doing it through Entourage and not through the web I do not
waste any time.

I have read some of the other posts and the idea of the "5 year" lifespan of
a piece of software from Microsoft isn't very customer orientated. Microsoft
Hotmail working in Microsoft Entourage, you would expect perfect harmony!!!

Enjoy the long weekend of sleep!!!

Duncan.

Sorry, you are not going to like the response:

From MS support;

We traced the issue back to a security-related change on the Hotmail
servers, which unfortunately affects all Hotmail customers and is too
critical to revert.

Entourage X users who do not upgrade to Entourage 2004 can try the following
workarounds:
Receiving Mail: Move any messages in the Outbox to Drafts. Message retrieval
works in some cases if no messages need to be sent.
Sending Mail: Send messages via a non-Hotmail account.

Sorry I don't have better news.

FWIW, you can't expect a company to support older software forever. The
issues involved requires tremendous resources as operating systems change.
In computer years, 5 years is a very long time.

I doubt newer software will even run on Panther in the near future.

You mentioned you needed to send clients PDFs through Entourage. Doesn't
your ISP give you an email address? Why are you using a Hotmail account?

What has been the result of you using Entourage X after the DST changeover?

Thank you for your reply, my apologies for not getting back to you, but I
have been out of the office since the Easter weekend.

Even though I appreciate your comments, I am also very disappointed with the
reponse and apathy towards Mac users and also you asking me why I use Hotmail.

I have had my Hotmail address for quite a long time now, 7-8 years and it
has served me very well. It is also known a all of my clients, employment
agencies and is my ONLY email!!!

Not only would I have to change my email address but have to change my
stationery and alert all of my contacts after finding a new email provider.

Yes I can set up a new email account with my ISP but it doesn't work with
Entourage and has proved to be "stubborn" to be very honest.

The beauty of my Hotmail account was the ease of set-up and compatability
with first, Outlook Express and then Entourage vX. As soon as the application
is running I can send and receive emails without any problems and it has
really been of great help to me.

I am very tempted to upgrade but even if I go with Office 2004, I will need
to upgrade again in two more years and you even say that in the future you
doubt software will work with Panther and possibly Tiger!!!

I have been a Mac user since 1991 and grown up with Microsoft products all
along the way, some of the companies I work for as freelance use Entourage
and in two years time they may have the same problem with their Macs.

Your recent actions could have considerable implications for alot of Mac
based businesses around the world, have you considered that. I am just a
one-man-band, but one of my clients is a big global company with a Head
Office in America and with offices through out Europe and the Far East and
all of their Mac based personnel use Entourage 2004 as a Company policy.

I will be informing UK Mac based publications of my problems so that other
people here in the UK who have probably had the same problem as me are aware
of what's happened so that they don't waste as much time as me trying to fix
a problem that is not fixable at this moment in time and may be even bigger
in two years time!

Will the proposed Mac Version of "Office 2007" solve the problem I am
experiencing when it is released, if it is to be released for the Mac?

I do not think you fully appreciate how people like me and everyone else who
has contributed to this discussion thread are suffering, and also those who
will suffer in two more years!

In answer to your question about how things are in Entourage vX after the
DST changeover, I can honestly say that receiving emails is fine, but
deleting, replying and sending DOES NOT WORK ANY MORE!

Five years is not a very long time and please do not think that everyone
constantly wants to always have the most up-to-date software when what they
have works perfectly for their needs as Entourage vX did for me until 2nd
April 2007.

Please reconsider us smaller businesses and see if you can help us out,
please!!!

Regards,

Duncan.

First, I want to make it clear. I DO NOT WORK for Microsoft. I am a
volunteer contributor to this list. I was awarded the honor by MS for my
volunteer work as a Microsoft Mac MVP.

I understand your reluctance to give up your Hotmail account since it is
your primary business email. Since you use your account for business, how is
the incorrect time working out?

Next, you say your ISP email account won't work. Entourage works with all
ISPs AFAIK. Perhaps, you need to work on that so you can send your email
through that account using "Additional Headers" so your reply address is
your hotmail account.

Old software will usually work "forever" unless the OS is updated that no
longer supports it. For example, your classic applications no longer work on
OS X. That's pretty obvious. What's different this time is the major change
in a basic function "TIME". The change from the regular schedule for DST
made a huge problem for all developers whose software used time as one of
it's functions. It's unfortunate that some users are hit particularly hard
by this change, but it is not reasonable to expect companies to go back and
fix old out of date software when they didn't create the problem. But...you
are saying they did break their server update. The update was a necessary
fix for users using current software. It had to be done from what I
understand.

I don't know exactly what changed with the Microsoft server update, but it
also broke IE in Mac OS 9 and older versions of Outlook for PC users.

Personally, I would love to see more reasonable prices for some software
like the Adobe suites for people like me that don't use it to make a living.
I totally understand your viewpoint as a small business owner, however, I
don't make decisions for Microsoft.
Will the proposed Mac Version of "Office 2007" solve the problem I am
experiencing when it is released, if it is to be released for the Mac?

The next version of Office is Office 2008. Office 2007 is the PC version
that was recently released. ASAIK, Office 2004 does not have the problems
with Hotmail.

AMEN Duncan.

I too just learned why I cannot send emails from MSN in Entourage X
for Mac and I am steaming ANGRY!

Even a post on the MSN web site about WHY this is happening would have
gone a long way to appease my anger.

But this apathetic attitude is not acceptable. I have used my msn
account for six years and have hundreds of people who would have to be
contacted were I to switch.

Diane, I do hope that Microsoft will reconsider their approach to this
and create a patch that at least gives us TIME to find an alternative,
rather than forcing one on us as you have done. Even if I change my
email address, you can be assured that I will be considering NON
microsoft alternatives to receiving and sending email. Thunderbird
comes to mind.

The amount of people affected by the "Error 1412" problem is steadily
growing, I do believe we have opened up a naughty can of worms!!!

This appears to be a complete opposite to what was on the Microsoft wesite
about Office vX only three weeks before the problem occured!!!

Check out the following weblink:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/officex/officex.aspx?pid=officex

Make up you own conclusions!

I have sent an email to the UK editions of Macuser, Macformat and Macworld
in the hope of letting people in the UK know what has happened in the hope we
can get this issue sorted without having to always pay out for an upgrade all
the time like PC users!

Mac users do not need to be treated like this perhaps Apple's "Mail" is the
answer!

Maybe we should all drop Microsoft before they completely drop us Macusers.

I will check things out in Mail and report back.

It's close to midnight in the UK so it will have to be tomorrow now, thank
you for your comments and support Fiberliza!

Regards,

Duncan (in London).

Duncan Marshall (London, England)

I have just set up an identical email address for myself using the
"hotmail.co.uk" server and set it up as an account in my Entourage vX
software in the hope that this might overcome the problem.

Firstly, when I specified it as a Hotmail/MSN account it wanted me to
sign-up to the premium service even though the email account is free! Why?

Secondly, if I specified it as a POP account, when I did the "Send &
Recieve" schedule I got a new error message of "Error -23016" and no folders
appear in my window for my "Hotmail.co.uk" account.

Please advise what to do!

Do I need more info or how do fill in the fields when setting up the account
in my tools menu?

I am now going to bed as it is after midnight and I need to be up at 5am,
but I will check my emails tomorrow, both the ".com" and ".co.uk" for any
news.

Regards,

Duncan (in London).

Duncan Marshall

I have now tried the DST workaround and it made absolutely now difference. I
have also tried to bring in my Hotmail for both the ".com" and ".co.uk" email
addresses and I get a message about the servers being "unavailable".

I am now considering the 2004 update but would like confirmation that after
paying out and and installing, that I will be able to send and receive in
Entourage 2004 running Mac OSX 10.4.9.

Regards,

Duncan.

Hi Duncan,

I realize this doesn't address your question directly, but it might be of
help with your thinking about upgrading.

If you want to test Office 2004 before buying it, you can download the
Office 2004 testdrive at
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/default.aspx?pid=office2004td

That might be a way to try it out first and see if it resolves the trouble
you are having.
