I want to add a new blank slide to an existing presentation. Each time I
click Insert New Slide and chose Blank, a copy of the last slide on the
presentation is inserted. I have gone back into Word etc and cleared the
clipboard but it has no effect. I am using Power Point 2000.

In PowerPoint 2002 & 2003, new slides are added based on the Master slide
selected at the time of insertion. Therefore, if you have applied a
background to the master slide or have objects placed on it, they will
populate the new slide you are adding.

Are the 'Click to add title' and 'Click to add text' fields shown on the new
slide?

Thank you that is probably the answer. The Click to add title etc is not
shown as I am using blank slides and adding .jpg pictures from File for a
fine art lecture. I then have added a plain coloured backround. Can I alter
the master slide to accomodate this or can put the pictures in and change the
background colour?
Thanks for your quick response

I would suggest using a black or muted background color to keep the focus on
the art.
Then you can add the art images as pictures on the slides and not as the
background.

Thank you for your comments. I have worked round this problem by copying the
presentation onto a new file and done the adjustments there. However
whenever I tried to insert a new slide I was actually getting duplicates of
the slide with a pattern fill which I use at the begining and end of each
presentation and was unable to clear the slide to white.

This did not affect slides with pictures on them. I could remove the
background and or change the colour of the background on them.

By the way I actually choose different colour backgrounds deliberately for
different groups of slides in a presentation;-
a. to complement the colours of the paintings
b distinguish centuries or types
c. stop people falling asleep
They are all very subtle heritage colours!

Many thanks for your comments; they were useful as they set me exploring
options. I just wish Power Point was more convenient to use as compared with
the Open Office version.
