I cannot get my sound to work with inserted sound files in PowerPoint XP

P

Peter C.

For some reason, when I insert a sound (.wav) file into a
powerpoint slide it will not play. It used to work before
but I am experiencing problems since I updated to Win 2000
SP4.

If I click the wav files directly they all play correctly
but when imbedded in the slide they do not.

Can anyone please help out. It must be something simple.

Thanks

Peter:
You might try using the "Program Compability Wizard." It
gives you an opportunity to select the OS with which you
created the ppt program. I have XP and created a program
with 98. When I played it on XP it skipped sound ques
and some slide sequences. When I used the Program
Compability Wizard and clicked the "Windows 98" box, it
ran perfectly. Hope this helps.

you might have the same problem as I had with avi files:
the pathname of the ppt file (filename + foldername + subfoldersnames
etc) should not exceed 127 characters.
So if your file is stored in a sub-sub-sub-sub-folder, the pathname
(C:\folder1\folde2\...\filename.ppt) might be too long.
In this case try to rename the file or folders or move it to another
folder/directors
Hope it helps !??

Try this test and let us know the results:

Go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe. The MCI player will open. Go to
File > Open and locate the WAV file on your hard drive and then click on the
play icon. Does it play? Either way it will give us an idea of which
direction to take to help you solve the problem.
