I cannot make the name stay in the user preferences

I am using office 2004, word 2004. and I keep adding the name to the
user information in preferences. But when I open a document to make
comments, the name doesn't appear in the comment bar. nor can I seem
to add it there either.

what i am doing wrong?

Hi Ed -

Check Word> Preferences> Security & clear the check for "Remove personal
information from this file on save".
