I cannot open the microsoft jet engine workgroup information file

When I attempt to open a database using access 2003 I get the error message
cannot open the microsoft jet engine workgroup information file. What can i
do??

First make sure it's there:

C:\Window\System32\system.mdw

is the usual place. If it is, save/copy it to a new place then copy one from
another computer to replace the one which may be corrupt. If you still are
getting an error message, you may need to restore the system.mdw from a
backup.
