Echo S said:So you opened Excel 2003, went to Help|Detect and Repair, and you got a
message box saying "Repair cannot continue due to an error"? But it says
nothing else? There's no link to get more info on the web or anything like
that? Nothing that says what the error report contains?

After "Repair cannot contain due to an error" there's no additional
message
or link, it just stops.

Echo S said:Wow, I've no clue, then.
I googled this, and nothing shows up if I search "Repair cannot contain due
to an error." If I search just "repair cannot continue," though, the closest
thing I can find says, "Drive C is corrupted, repair cannot continue," and
that's not really close at all. Still, you might run a defrag and let it fix
any problems and before trying to run the Detect and Repair again.
You might also try running detect and repair from Add-Remove Programs. Click
Office in the list, hit the Change button, and choose "reinstall or repair."
Hit Next, and then choose "repair." I'd make sure to have your install CD
handy, because the repair might be looking for something that's missing from
your original installation (like a DLL file or something).

Why doesn't it ask for my original CD's? Neither the repair within the
office programs or the control panel do anything, they just stop halfway
through with "Can't continue due to an error" and that's it.
I even run the repair option from the setup.exe file from the original
CD-no
change.

Echo S said:Sorry, I don't know the answer to your questions. Setup issues like this
aren't my strong suit, but I suspect that you opted to delete the install
cache after you installed Office. (FWIW, I usually do that, too.) I don't
know why the repair doesn't look to your original CDs, though.
If nobody else chimes in with ideas, you might have to resort to calling MS
product support.
