I cannot save work I have entered in Micosoft Excel 2000-

I get a message saying Microsoft has encounted a problem and will shut down.
It asks if I want to send an error report. Then I lose everything I have
entered in Excel. I have down all the updates and am still having a problem.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and also ran a repair on
Excel. All to no avail. Any suggestions?
