I cannot use the text box & diagram box in some word documents in.

New XP User

I am using a word doument that has lots of graphics and text boxes etc from
word - on editing this in word 2003 (originally from word 2000) I cannot use
the text box & diagram box in this particualar document? - and ideas how to
fix??
