I can't delete a document. It appears and remains on the screen .

When I open Word, a document that I transferred from a disk remains on the
screen. I have deleted it, but it still appears. I can not type a new
document when I press new.

It's not at all clear what's happening from your description. I suspect,
however, that you might have saved a file over Normal.dot. Close Word,
search for Normal.dot and rename it (e.g., old-normal.dot), and see if that
solves the problem. See also:
