I take it you can open the file and view it, just not make & save changes?
Check the file isn't read-only (r-click file from Explorer, go to
Properties, make sure "Read-only" is unticked).

What error do you get? Is it your document to edit or someone's document who
may have protected it? Have you save it to your local HDD before trying to
edit it?
