I cant find normal.dot as I don't have a application data directo.

I am an experienced user of Word and have altered normal.dot template many
times. However, I cannot find an application data directory under my user
name using Windows XP and Microsoft Word 2003.

The folder is normally hidden. Open Windows Explorer, click "Tools",
"Folder Options", click the "View" TAB, and change the setting to "show"
hidden folders and files (might have to scroll down a little to see it).
