I can't get my design template to work

I followed the instructions to create a new template. Once I saved it, I
restarted PowerPoint, and my template showed up in the design template pane.
However, when I select it to apply to my slides, it doesn't take. When I
select other design templates (the ones already installed with the software),
those work without a problem. What's the deal?

In your new template file, did you make the changes on the master slide or
on a regular slide? They need to be on the master in order for them to apply
to slides.

Did you add the background and formatting in the Slide Master (View > Master
Slide Master) and not on the slide?
You will need to go to Slide Master, add the background and other formatting
you want, then save it as a template. Check this out for more information:
