I can't get the mail merge to work. It won't apply address to lab

[troubled and desprate]

I am trying to create mailing labels using the mail merge in microsoft word2003
I created a mailing list (Contact list)
but it won't apply the address to the labels
It just prints the word (record)???
what am I doing wrong ???
How do I work the mail merge in word 2003???
