Go to Format | Columns, make sure "Apply to" is set to "Whole document," and
click on the One icon, then OK. If this is happening in all new documents,
you will have to make this change in Normal.dot; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm
