I cant insert shapes or edit smartart and pictures

Mats

Suddenly I can´t insert shapes into word, excel and powerpoint. It´s possible
to insert pictures and smart art but not to edit them i nay way. I have
unistalled office 2007 ( you have to uninstall everything with 2007 label to
be able to install again - error 2711 problem!). But when reinstalled it´s
the same problem. Everything else seem to work fine.

Did you happen to save the files as 97-2003 format and then reopen them? If
so, you'll see something like this in the title bar: filename.ppt
[Compatibility Mode]

How are you trying to insert the shapes? What happens when you try to insert
shapes into Word? How about when you try to insert them into PPT?

How have you inserted the pictures? What kind of edits are you trying to do?
Are all the picture formatting options greyed otu? What happens when you try
to edit a picture in Word? How about when you try to edit it in PPT?

Which version of Windows are you running on?

One thing you should know -- Word and PPT/Excel handle "backsaving" (saving
as 97-2003 format) differently:

In PPT and Excel, things like SmartArt become un-editable when you open them
in PPT/Excel 2003, but if you later open the file in 2007, the SmartArt
becomes editable again. In Word, things like SmartArt become un-editable,
period.

I'm guessing that explains the inabililty to edit pictures and SmartArt in
Word, at least. But it doesn't explain PPT and Excel, and it also doesn't
explain why you can't insert shapes.

Hello Echo S

I´m running Win XP Pro

It doesn´t matter if it´s an 97-2003 or a 2007 file. Ãt´s the same problem
in Word, Excel and PP. It accoured yesterday after app. 5 months of running
without any problem. Nothing seems to be wrong but when I try to insert a
shape I, initally, get the "+" marker but nothing appers on the screen and
the marker changes back. When I try to insert a picture or smart art the
picture/smartart appers but I cant move/rezise or do anything. They just stay
in place. (At the same time Active sync 4.2 lost the connection with my PDA
and I can´t repair that either - have to reinstall). How about the error 2711
problem

Sincerely
Mats

Oh, I didn't realize this
was an unresolved issue.

Are you working with Beta 2, Beta 2 Technical Refresh (B2TR) or the RTM
(release to manufacturing) version of Office 2007?

When you mix various beta products, you may see this error. Some common
culprits are the Expression Web Designer beta, the compatibility packs for
Office 2003 (if you have both 2003 and 2007 on the same system), and the
PDF/XPS add-in. See also

Hello Echo S

First a bit of history. initally I had office 2007, project, visio, onenote
installed. Everything worked fine. Then this problem with insert accoured. It
doesn´t matter if i try in an old 97 - 2003 file or try to make a completely
new one. Or if it´s word, excel or ppt. Then I unistalled office 2007 and
tried to install it again. Error 2711. Uninstalled and really deleted ( I
think I did) everything assosiated with 2007. managed to reinstall office
2007. But with the same errors as before. I don´t think I managed to delete
everything because when I opened Outlook alla settings and e-mails was back.
But the same error with insert remanied. When i try to reinstall project,
visio and onennote at this stage I get the error 2711. So it´s actually two
major problems
1. Insert problem with word, excel and ppt
2. Installproblem with the other 2007 applications (poroject, visio and
onenote)

Bob Buckland ?:-\)

Hi Mats,

A common cause for the 2711 install error is having mixed Office 2007 Beta and Office 2007 Beta2 Technical Refresh files in play.

Once you have applied the B2TR (technical refresh Update patch to one Office 2007 Beta 2 product, you'll likely get a 2711 error
when trying to install another, now older, Beta2 product.

Check in Add/Remove programs in the Windows control panel turn on the [x] show updates button and for look for anything that has
either (beta) or (2007) somewhere in the title. Two commonly overlooked ones to be uninstalled are the 'Save as PDF/XPS' choice
and the Compatability Pack (that lets you open older files in the 2007 version).

If the 2711 error identifies the Corel Draw (CDR) filter as the problem you can try using a custom install with the graphics
filters/text converters turned off (set to Not available) in setup to see if you can get past the error. Then update all installed
products to B2TR.

That may help with the insert issue as well but also check that if you're using a Symantec-Norton protection product check in the
Antivirus settings, Miscellaneous tab, that you have turned off the 'Office Plugin' choice.
