I can't male the curser for text boxes return to an arrow curser

When I click on the text box icon and make a text box I then can't get out of
it and return to the arrow curser. I've tried the esc key (which works in
word), clicking outside the workspace, nothing works.

try selecting the pointer tool (right next to the text tool).
