I can't open a file from the program, nor I can save

I can't open a file from any Office XP program by clicking the open document
icon. I can open a file from explorer. I can't save any changes or
documents. The program freezes and closes, loosing any information when
trying to access or save a document in a file.
I have already installed all the updates.
