I can't send messages

Frustrated Outlook User

I am able to received messages in my Outlook but I can't send any messages.
I get the following error messages..."Outlook could not connect to the
outgoing mail server SMTP. All my SEND messages are in my Outbox. I have
SBC DSL service and I am using 2WIRE modem. My POP3 and SMTP settings are
setup with " mail.XXXX(my domain name). My outlook used to work fine until I
started downloading some Windows Updates. Can somebody please help me?

Are you properly authenticating to the outgoing server? SBC Yahoo! requires
that.

My outlook used
to work fine until I started downloading some Windows Updates.

What version of Outlook and what updates?
