This is most often because you have a trial version that came free with a
new computer and the trial has now expired or because you have not activated
the application and it has exceeded its 50 use cycles.

Do you know which version you have and if it is a trial and has been
activated on line?

If you cannot make changes to a document, your Word program might not
be activated, the document might be locked for editing or password-
protected, or you might be trying to modify a document or text in a
form that is protected.
you can check the article given below on How to Unlock Microsoft Word 2007 :
http://www.blog.recoverlostpassword.com/how-to-unlock-microsoft-word-2007/
Note: You cannot edit a document that is open in Word Viewer, but you
can copy text to the Clipboard to paste it in other applications.
