I can't ungroup several objects that I need to modify individual

I am supposed to be modifying several objects that have been grouped
together, but I am unable to ungroup them.
I think perhaps this is due to the fact that the text wrapping was set to
"tight" or "in line with text" but I am unable to change this even.
When I right-click on the grouped object, and select Grouping, the Ungroup
and
Group options are faded out; only Regroup is selectable.

Does anyone know how to ungroup these objects?

Sounds like it was coied & pasted as something other than WMF, EMF, or Word
Drawing Object *after* it was grouped. Try this;

Copy the object, then go to Edit>Paste Special>Picture (Enhanced Metafile).
You may be able to ungroup that.

The type of Text Wrapping doesn't make any difference as long as it *isn't*
In Line with Text.

I'm having the same problem. Using the paste special didn't work - in fact,
it was worse as it just pasted the whole thing in as one picture (the
grouping command didn't even exist anymore).

Figured it out...as Bob suggested, it's because it was In Line with Text. I
just changed the object to Tight (at which point I could ungroup) and
modified it, then changed it back to In Line.

Yo found this as a solution to my problem, and it's from 17 years ago! Has this always been an issue or just how it works?
