I don't get server extensions!

I am using FP2002. I want to create an email form so I can have messages on
my site delivered to my email address.

I know how to create a form. I know how to direct it to go to my email
address. I know my host has to support FP extensions, which it says they do
on their site.

What I don't know is what the heck these extensions are. I've been trying
to make it work for three days...scouring the internet for a simple
explanation.

When I download them, all I find are a bunch of files. What do I do with
these files? Do they just sit on my computer? Why didn't FP put these in
the program if they are so necessary to create forms?

Thank you for your help.

Thank you. I read something yesterday (by you, I think) where it said to
"publish" the page instead of ftp it. I will look into this a little more
and see if I can figure this out.

With your "local" web open in FrontPage, click File > Publish Web > and then enter
http://yourwebsitename.com as the "publish to" address.

FrontPage extensions are installed on a "server," they are not installed with or as a
part of FrontPage.

make sure that you Publish via the http:// method so you don't "break" the extensions on
the host.

You don't need to download the extensions. It is your Web host who must
have them.
However if you have WIN XP pro then you can install IIS with the FP
Extensions from your Windows CD so you can test the forms you create
locally before you publish the web.

With the exception of actually having the form data sent by email.

The Front Page Server Extensions are a series of programs
that run on your host's server. They provide, among other
things:

1. the ability to publish your website from your PC to
the host without having to worry about the details of
what all must get published in order to have a
functioning site

2. Front Page forms processing.

As was stated by others, they do not have to be on your
PC but must be supported by your host and activated for
your account. Beyond making sure your host has them in
place, you should never have to be concerned with them.

If you just follow the simple steps for the "http"
publishing method, it should work right the first time.
It did for me. It still does.
