Souldn't the basic version be preinstalled on my computer. I bought it about
3 months ago. Is office still free for students. I just need word and excell.

In addition to your other reply, if money really is a problem have a look at
Open Office - it's free and is more or less compatible with MS file formats
(other than 2007...)

Hi Lucretiaw,

Unless your school provides MS Office, it isn't a free product for Students, but it is discounted either through your campus
bookstore or via retail the MS Office 2007 Home & Student edition
http://office.microsoft.com/suites

Some computer suppliers may preinstall either a 60 day trial edition or if they include an Office product suite on the new computer
it may not be listed as an itemized price, but you're probably paying for it in the total price.

It also sounds as though your salesperson didn't his/her job to discovery
what you needed.

I know that I didn't solve your problem. I used to sell computers for a
national manufacturer and prided myself in being able to sell the customer
what she/he needed. Nothing more, nothing less. (I didn't make the big bucks
like some of my coworkers did but my clients came back and sent their
friends.)
