I don't want to use timesheet - training issue

Would it be considered bad form to set up a project to collect Vacation,
Sick, and other time - rather than using Timesheet for that?

No, but you lose a huge benefit from using the Timesheet. If you use the
Timesheet, nonworking time such as vacation and planned sick leave is
automatically added to the resource's personal calendar in the Enterprise
Resource Pool once it is approved by the timesheet approver. Hope this
