I get disconnected from the server when downloading new e-mail me.

When I open Outlook and try to download new e-mail messages, I get
disconnected from the server on trying to receive the first message. The I
hit send/receive again and it usually downloads some of the messages before
disconnecting again. Then when I hit send/receive again it usually though
not always downloads all of them, starting with the first new message. So I
end up with duplicate messages.

This problem occurs only on this relatively new laptop with Outlook 2003,
and it started after I installed service pac 2. The problem does not occur
on my desktop where I use Outlook or on my older laptop where I use Outlook
Express.

Do you have any internet security products installed that can scan e-mail?
(e.g. Norton, Trend, Panda, ZoneAlarm, .etc) The reason that I ask is that
this group is seeing a high rate of posts concerning dropped connections.
Standard answer has been to tell the user to uninstall/reinstall the
security product w/out e-mail integration.

Since you mention that this started after SP2 for Windows XP and I know
these products use the loopback address to achieve their protection, would u
be willing to install the patch mentioned in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;884020&sd=RMVP on
your WinXP (SP2) box demonstrating the problem and report back the results
before going with paragraph 1?
