i get frontpage error message: couldn't open file

Within the same directory folder, why cant I open my file when I click on the
link? The directory path seems to be identical but still the problem
persists.

what file, what folder, what link, what path?

you should open your web/site first.

I am way past opening the website, I am trying to edit my site and add a file
to it. I saved the new file to add within the same folder as the other of my
existing website files. I did the link to my new (to be added) file but as I
click the link, gives me this error: "Couldn't open file <filename>". What
do I need to do to resolve this?

Did you save it into the folder via FrontPage??
If not, FrontPage doesn't know it's there.

Drag and drop or copy and paste the file into a folder in FrontPage
folder view.
Then link to it.
