I guess I could search the postings but...

....let's face it, there are a LOT of postings. So perhaps some one will take
pity on this poor, lazy soul.

My question has to do with data entry. I need to enter the data from our
press runs (I work for a commercial printer) into a database. While some of
the data is specific to a particular press run (when it was ran, who ran it,
etc.) some of the information is the same from run to run (how many pages,
how much color, etc.). So how do I get Access to pickup certain fields from
one press run and replicate them for a second press run without the user
having to actually type them in again?

Thanks

Nope. That worked once. At this point you ought to get off your duff
and at least try to some of the legwork yourself. Prefacing your
question with a statement that you don't intend to even attempt to help
yourself is not a good way to get people to help you.

It's actually the same question. I'm afraid it seems that Steven's aversion
to searching posts extends even to answers to his own questions.

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for
me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

I believe I see now why you guys seem to have taken such a hard line on me.
It probably looked to you like I had asked the question, received an answer,
and was too lazy to even check my own post for an answer. The truth is, I
received a number of error messages while trying to post my question and I
did not realize that it had already been posted and that answers had been
suggested. I was only looking for the post that I knew had gone through which
is this post.

Just as a side note, I would like to thank everyone who made a suggestion of
how to accomplish what I wanted. I really do appreciate any help offered and
I am not actually a lazy person. I just have a very dry sense of humor and
thought surely there are other people out there who have been overwhelmed at
the amount of imformation available who might find the situation amusing. I
mean, when you do a search for a topic and get 45,000 hits, even the most
dedicated person has to get tired after the first 5 or 10 thousand.

Again, thanks,
Steven Sutton

Fair enough -- problems with the web interface have led to a number of
duplicate posts recently. That's why those of us who spend a lot of
time in the newsgroups use a newsreader, like Outlook Express or Agent,
instead of the web interface. Besides, the web interface is slow as
molasses.

First, you need to narrow down your search so you don't get so many hits
returned. Second, if you've done a good job in framing your search
terms, if you get that many hits you'll see they are almost all the same
question being asked, and the same answer being given, over and over
again. Have you considered how frustrating that is from the answerers'
side? Have a look at the netiquette guidelines at
http://www.mvps.org/access/netiquette.htm .

On the other hand, if you don't see a relevant answer in the first
couple of pages of hits, you probably haven't framed your question
properly, or else it's too specific to you and your setup.

Are you searching using Microsoft's web-news interface? I don't know
how powerful that is. You may want to try using Google Groups for your
searches instead. It's very powerful. I have a shortcut on my desktop
to their Advanced Groups Search page:
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search . I just type
"*.*access.*" in the Newsgroup box to restrict my search to the
newsgroups relevant to Access.
