Chances are they will want money to help you with that.

Specifically what do you need help with? Have you tried putting the CD in
and following the steps? It will basically walk you thru the installation.

Office 2000 Small Business is an OEM version
that can only be installed on the original computer
it shipped with and cannot be installed on any other
computer.

I am also running Office 2000 Small Business. I have been able to
successfully load it on my computer (new 200GB hard drive) and use Word and
Excel regularly. I am looking to get all available updates (security and
otherwise). Whenever I attempt this, is states that the product is not on
the computer (which obviously it is). I have never heard about this before
(about Office 2000 SB only working on one computer). How can this be and is
this absolutely true?
I attempted to contact MS about this, but they want money to support their
own product !? I do not understand that one at all.
Thanks for any help in this matter.

Apart from Office 2k SB being an OEM product, licenced only for the origonal
PC, I believe you will find support for 2k has expired

Thanks for the response.
OK, so I guess that makes sense as far as MS's support.
But what about my computer stating that Office 2k Sb not being loaded even
though I am using it all the time with no operating issues? Any idea>

Because OFF2K SB is a OEM product and your OS which is probably retail does not recognize it. Operating issues will come sooner or later using this combination.

Hi Spock,

MS Office 2000 had five retail editions. MS Office 2000 Small Business Edition was available as a retail product and as an OEM
[preinstalled with PC] product (same product, different licensing). Only with MS Office XP Small Business Edition (2002) did MS
experiment with making it an OEM only product, they went back to making it retail with Office 2003.

If you start Word and use Help=>About if the product ID does not show 'OEM' in the ID then it's a retail product and can be
transferred to another computer. While there, what is the build version of Office 2000 that you are using.

The age of Office 2000 is what puts it into paid support.

If you have the Office 2000 CDs then from Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel use Microsoft Office 2000 listing there
and run a repair/reinstall. If it doesn't complete successfully then the installation may be damaged and that would cause a problem
with the updates.

If it does complete the repair/reinstall successfully, what update are you trying to apply after downloading (the automatic updater
from MS does not support versions older than Office XP) and what is the exact error message you are getting?
