I just can't seem to get Header indents to behave as expected.

I have an existing document with a style that I am attempting to use in
another document. In this original document, header 1, header 2, etc. are
numbered and indented. When I select any one of these in my cloned document,
it DOESN'T indent like the original. Furthermore, if I hit forward/backward
indent (say header2 -> header 3 <- header 2), the header on the original doc
behaves like my cloned version and the indentation disappears.

I.e.:

1 HEADER 1
1.1 HEADER 2

becomes

1. HEADER 1
1.1 HEADER 2

I am at a loss on how to control this. Is there any decent book on this sort
of stuff?

Hi Sean

I assume you're talking about headings and not headers? Headers are text
that appears at the top of every page (eg a page number or running
title).

For info about numbering headings, including how to manage the indents,
see

Document

Hope this helps.
