Too late
- someone already has registered it
Just type it in your browser address bar to see if it exists

| I'm building a web site and was going to use 1&1. ( www.1and1.com )
| Does any one use there service? Do you have any recommendations? I'm 13 and new at this.

That's the way I read it too. I've seen comments on 1and1 over in the
Dreamweaver groups all comments seem to be positive.

Well done for building a website at 13 :)

You're right
- misread it

| I believe he was asking if the host was any good, not if the domain was
| available?

1&1 is OK as far as $ to service goes. I"ve used it since Dec. It's "shared hosting", so read all the manuals
Keep the root as FTP and add FP extensions to any subdirectories you make. Has admin. page where you can set permissions, etc. Have not had a problem with them
Note, expensive hosts can sometimes be a bear to set up, and not necessarily "major" better than cheapies IMHO

Why would you want to keep the root as FTP??

Just curious.

It's a shared host, so you keep the root ftp and assign directories under that. You can then install FPEs on any directory or not and point a domain to that directory at any time. If you use FPEs in the root, you will not be able to assign any domains without using mydomain.com.yourdomain. In other words, you will only be able to create subwebs.
I have 3 domains pointed to separate individual directories under the root account. Make sense
