if i'm not mistaken
job costing is offered
as an accounting course
at your local college or
community college.
however, you might
want to google for
something like "what
is job costing".
in regards to setting
up the company for
maintaining, analyzing
and billing costs, you
will need spreadsheets
and an accounting software.
there are many software's
out there. but due to
this newsgroup being
microsoft, then i would
suggest microsoft office
for spreadsheeting, documents,
etc.
then you might want to
look at the microsoft
accounting software.
both of the above can
be found at microsoft.com
-------
as a final thought, perhaps
there is a job costing template
available from microsoft.com
template site.
not sure if there is, but worth
a shot.
-------
incidentally, job costing is
only "one" of many
accounting aspects
required for service
related business's.
unless the boss is paying you
in pebbles, it doesn't sound
like you are in-between a
cloud and a bed of roses.
