I need header on first page only

R

Robin Chapple

I have followed the instruction found in "Help".

From the Header/Footer toolbar I have clicked the Layout tab, Selected
"Different first page".

When I get to page two I still have the header.

I have tried a section break new page.

What have I missed.

Thanks,

Robin Chapple.

By default, Word thinks that when you use this feature, you want a header on
page 2 and thereafter, but not on page 1. Your situation is reversed. Since
Different First Page is already enabled, go to page 1, and ensure that the
header is as you want it to appear. Now, go to page 2, choose View - Header
and Footer, and delete the header.

You should now have the header only on page 1, and not on page 2 and
thereafter.

You do _not_ want a section break. The setting for different first page
means first page of the _section!_ When you click this option, it takes your
current header/footer and makes that the continuaton header/footer. Take a
look at: How to set up letterhead or some other document where you want one
header on the first page and a different header on other pages.
http://www.addbalance.com/word/headersfooters.htm This gives step-by-step
instructions.

Hope this helps,
