I need help reinstalling Office2000

I need help sorting out various patches and updates I downloaded from
Microsoft.

I have my original OEM Office2000 disk and I am running Windows 98 with all
the latest Microsoft upgrades and patches.

When reinstalling Office2000 I get:

"Error 1328. Error applying patch to file c:\Config.Msi\PT****.TMP. It
has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by
this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor."

My patch vendor is, of course, Microsoft; my original vendor has gone south
(ie out of business and disappeared).

Earlier I had down loaded patchs o2ksu.exe (a speller update which can't be
uninstalled), o2ksr1a.exe and o2ksp3.exe upgrades. The last two upgrades
complained about a previous patch - presumebly o2ksu.

As well, when I spellcheck I get:

"WINWORD (all progams) caused an invalid page fault in module
MSSPELL3.DLL".

I uninstalled every thing, cleaned out any loose programs, dlls and the
registry.

I've reinstalled and I still get Error 1328 and 'invalid page fault'.

Using Office's detect and repair doesn't help either.

Contacting Microsoft doesn't help.

Sorry this message is so long but I am getting really frustrated.
