If you don't have it with the CD you purchased a looooong time ago you won't
be able to get it now.

No one on this NG will give you one and MS has stopped supporting the
program a very long time ago.

If the software is still installed on a working system, Magical Jellybean
Keyfinder http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml will locate the
installation key for you (if you have more than one version of Office
installed you will have to click on Office tab and then scroll down the list
of Office software to the Office 07 to locate the 4 X 7 character key.

Sorry, no one can give you a product key
for the obsolete Office 97 software.

yep, I tried it with my multi-Office installed system before I posted. It
will find at least Office '97, XP, and 2003. It didn't, of course, find
Office 2000 (and it never did) and the version I am using, 1.51, won't find
Office 2007 installed on an XP system and I don't think this version will
find it on a Vista system either.

Upon looking back at my original post back it should have read "Office 97 to
locate" instead of "Office 07 to locate" on the last line however. Thank
goodness that the OP was asking about '97 not '07 software.

Thank you. I honestly didn't know and since I don't own that version I have
no way of trying it for myself. ;-)

Office97 has been out of support for a very long time. It had a 10 digit key. Since it is not supported anymore all you need to do is put in all of the same digit number . As an example 2,s or 3,s,or 4,s etc all the way up to the 9,s. Whichever same single number is your favorite.
