I need separate columns that flow downward only

I want to do "side-by-side" research where the information in the first
column never moves over to the second column. I need to be able to enter
text in either column without affecting the other column at all. Each column
should flow downward only.

Appreciating any help I can get.

Use a two column layout, place a column break at the bottom of the left-hand
column
