I need to open a picture saved as .mdi, how?

Someone sent me several pictures that have a .mdi tag and nothing I do will
let me view them. Can someone help?

Ask the person who sent them to send in a format you can read.
They could be Microsoft Document Imaging Format (MDI), but they may be
something else.
