By the way, many UK publishing house now use -ize !

Could it be because UK Prime Minister is an American poodle?

Personally, I like American spellings and I only buy american books.
They are easy to follow and straight to the point while British books
are just a waffle to fill pages!

Have you set your language and timezone correctly? The OS language
setting and Office language settings should be identical to avoid any
problems.

I too am from the UK but I don't have the problem you describe nor can I
replicate it on my system!

I’ve had a similar problem which I first noticed in Outlook and was also the
same in Word. No matter what the spell checker is set to when you exit then
restart the application its back on US English again.
I ensured that all regional setting instances were set to UK, however still
US.
Then I stumbled upon C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office\Microsoft Office Tools\Microsoft Office 2003
Language Settings. The setting ‘Choose the language that defines default
behaviour in Microsoft Office applications’ needs to be set to English (UK).
It sorted my issue!

PS behaviour is spelt with a U
