I type 19 - shows up in cell as .19

I have tried changing the formatting but that is not the problem (I
don't think). The problem is that somehow a decimal is being entered
that I do not want without me hitting the decimal button. Please help

Preferences/Edit... uncheck the Fixed decimal places checkbox.
