I want to be able to remove the completely redundant 'favorite folders'
section from the navigation pane. In general, the more you let me organize
my things the way I want them organized, the happier I am. I understand that
you guys do a lot of research, but why can't I do things the way I like, and
that worked for me very well with a previous version of outlook. This new
version is one step forward and one step back.

Right click on a blank space on the tool bar and uncheck Web.
I will disagree that the new version is "one step back."

Chuck,

That removes a Web toolbar, that may, or may not, contain a favourites
button.

mkh13 wants to remove the "Favorites Folder" region from the Navigation
Pane, which isn't currently possible.

mkh13,

The other thing to consider is to switch to the Folder List navigation
window, instead of Mail navigation window. You can hide the Mail navigation
window within the Navigation Pane Options; but, you have to click the Folder
List tab/button in order to switch away from the Mail navigation window.

The Mail navigation window is just the Folder List with the Favorites.

Not quite true. The Mail view doesn't contain any non-mail folders in the
view.
