When I was asked if this post was helpful to me I had to say "YES" it
was
helpful to know how low this appears to be on Microsoft list of things
that
are meaningful.
AND I read the post too Russ - and I agree, you seemed to be more
intent
on
defending yourself than honestly admiting there is an issue that MS
didn't
have an answer for. Then, to make matters worse, you effectively tell
Owen
his need isn't important because MS has found that no one cares about
Nicknames! GROW UP.
Nearly every Ham Radio Operator wants to use the call letters as a
nickname
for the user. My Ham friend mentioned this to me the other day. this
is
only one of many times I've heard of this issue.
:
I know. Microsoft confused everyone with IMO. It wasn't so much a
"lite"
version as a completely different program that had the same name.

Strange how the "Lite" version of Outlook, Outlook Express will work
with
"Nicknames" and the Full Function version won't.
Typical Microsoft
:
No need to get snippy with me. It's easy for you to know what you
mean.
Not
for me. In actual fact, most people who post about "nicknames" in
this
group
are not even talking the nickname field. They are talking about the
email
aliases used in autocompletion or autoresolution. And most people
who
inquire about exporting have no need to use the export function at
all
because they have no need to change file formats. Answer a few
thousand
posts then see how critical you are of others.

Thanks (for nothing)
Maybe you should be more specific/consistant in your use of
terminology
I supose ther fact there are "Very Few" using the nickname field
is
why
you
have had to enquire of all of those asking about it, more than a
dozen
as
we
"Speak" , what they mean by "Nickname" .
:
Yes I did. PST files and Outlook Data Files are the same thing.
They
can
only be used by Outlook.
I guess everyone's "real world" is different. Actually, I find
very
few
users who make extensive use of the Nickname field or who need
to
export
their data to other formats very often.

Actualy no you did not mention PST files at all.
In the "Real World" Nicknames are what most of us use after
all
that's
why
MS have them included in Outlook.
So essentialy Nicknames can only be used within Outlook, or
can
PST
files
be
used by any other Office pprograms, if so which?
:
Nicknames do not survive exports. A lot of other data doesn't
either.
Note
that I said it would only survive if you copy and reuse the
PST
file.

Provide your Outlook version.
Clarify what you mean by "nicknames"
The nickname field is included in the Contact Record when
you
copy
your
Outlook Data File.
