Ok, go ahead, you may switch back, simply return the system to the prior
configuration.

Hi Ken,

I'm assuming you're referring to Office 2007 :)

For Office 2007 Microsoft created a new, tabbed interface to replace the previous Menu Bar and Toolbar interface. Microsoft made a
business decision to not show the previous interface in Office 2007's core apps.

There are folks who find the new interface useful; folks who don't; folks who find it 'cool' and new; folks who find it frustrating
because it is different; folks who find it less frustrating; folks who take the change personally; folks who don't <g>; folks who
like the challenge of finding out how to work and customize the new interface and folks who just want to get on with using the
product at hand, because it is what it is :)

The prior versions of Office still work, if switching back is an available option for you.

There are a number of competing products to Microsoft Office, including http://openoffice.org , that can produce files that can be
used by folks with Office (and Office 2007 will add built-in support for Open Office file formats starting with Service Pack 2
http://blogs.msdn.com/dmahugh/archi...inciples-for-office-s-odf-implementation.aspx )

There are free and purchasable add-ins to allow access to a menubar style interface in Office 2007, and methods for bringing over
the old menus from the prior version, http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm

There are also techniques and tools for modifying or replacing the Ribbon elements, that while not built into the user interface are
possible, both in some products that provide a user editing tool for doing so
http://pschmid.net/office2007/ribboncustomizer/featuretourpart1.php
and some that are 'power user' targeted
http://www.rondebruin.nl/ribbon.htm
and some that try to work more like previous toolbar models
http://toggletoolbar.com

There are a number of tools and references available for finding things on the new tabbed interface as well, such as those at

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/HA102295841033.aspx
and
http://officelabs.com/projects/searchcommands/Pages/default.aspx

If you're a keyboard shortcut user, many of the prior version keyboard shortcuts still work in the Office 2007 product. You can
also toggle the icon view by using either Ctrl+F1 or double clicking on a tab.
